Virtual Conference

In Sydney, there will be a conference about E-Learning on November 2nd 2007. People will be interacting live and by internet, using social tools like Second Life, Twitter and blogs. My teacher, Barbara Dieu, is hosting a lunch on Second Life for this conference and is preparing a menu for the conversations . She asked the following question :

If you could invite 5 people from the past to join your table at the E-learning event in Sydney, who would those be and what would be the topic for conversation?

My paternal grandfather, because he lived lots of historical events ;

Che Guevara, for  his revolutionnary ideas ;

Bono Vox, since I admire his music and his social work ;

Angelina Jolie, because I think she is a very interesting actress and human activist ;

Luís Fernando Verissimo, who is one of the nowadays writters I like the most.

Science Fair Poster

I chose this picture and this catchphrase for doing a poster for the shcool’s science fair, because I think that the situation of global warming is alarming nowadays. I wanted to illustrate the fact that everyone can help to reduce it in a certain way.

New Orleans

Hello teacher!

I hope you are fine and enjoying your trip very much.

I think that you should visit the French Quarter, because there are located lots of bars, restaurants and hotels that you can visit. Also, the nightlife there is notorious and the architecture is very impressive. If I were you, I would give a try because it looks very unique.

Magic Pill

In Second Opinion, a question has been asked: ” If you could take a pill that would change you, which would it be and why?” Six possible answers have been given, so people can debate about which one is the best and which ones are bad in their point of view. The possibilities are: make you handsome or beautiful, make you famous, stronger, rich,  extremely smart or the President of the
US.
Most people would prefer become rich by taking the magic pill, so they could supply their necessities and help charities and other people in need. Some think that taking the magic pill would be worthless, because you only get satisfied with the things you obtain when you work for their realization. Other ones give religious arguments, saying you can’t accept a change that isn’t provided by God’s will. I respect this last opinion but I disagree with it, because I think that our choices are the path we determine for ourselves according to our wants and the consequences they can have.  Personally, I would choose to become extremely smart because with smartness and determination we can certainly become the other possibilities provided. Besides, smartness would make me more rational in this kind of choices.

End of the afternoon

Beautiful picture of the seaside in the end of the afternoon.  I especially like the sunlight trying to escape from the clouds and the sea movement.

Is there a Santa Claus?

In Second Opinion , people have been debating about if it’s appropriate to lie to children about Santa Claus. Some people say it’s bad, because a lot of children know it’s a fake story, and pretend they believe in it just to receive their presents. But I agree with those who say it’s good to encourage this belief, since it’s very magical to the children and turns on their imagination. The parents can have fun too, hiding the presents and playing Santa. However, I think that we have to explain naturally to the children it’s not a real story when they grow up, because they get too smart to believe in it.
